Almeda A Throop was born about 1838, the oldest child of Thomas G and Polly Caroline [Spears] Throop. Thomas and Polly Caroline were married in Perry County, Illinois in 1837, and lived in Perry County at the time of the 1840 census with two girls under five. Thus Almeda was born in Perry County and lived there until sometime before 1850 when she is listed on the 1850 census as a 12-year-old in the household of her parents in Centreville, St. Clart County, Illinois.
Her father, Thomas, was the second child of Caleb Throop, and Almeda A is Thomas’ oldest child. With the age span of families, Thomas has a younger sister born between 1830-1835 whose name I don’t know and who would be just a few years older than Almeda. This sister of Thomas could have been named Almeda leaving the possibility that some of the subsequent records could apply to another Almeda Throop.
The marriage of Almeda Throop and Thomas Hinds on August 17, 1854 in Perry County is recorded in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index (Vol 2, page 91). A member submitted entry at International Genealogical Index has this bride as the daughter of Thomas. But at the 1860 census, 22-year-old Almeda is recorded in the household of her father, Thomas in Perry County. On both the 1850 and 1860 census, Alexander and Jane Watkins at T6S R3W Perry County have a young single male helping with the farm. On the 1850, he is Thomas Hines, age 16, born in Delaware. On the 1860, he is Thomas Hines, age 25, born in Pennsylvania. Again according to the IGI, Thomas Hinds was born in Illinois about 1834. So, Almeda would have been 16 and Thomas 20 at the time of the marriage. A Thomas Hinds married Marilda E Uhlas April 13, 1862 in Jackson County Illinois as recorded in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index (film 0968927-0968929). This could be a different Thomas Hinds, but I find no Hinds family (using soundex) in Jackson County on any census of this time. This could be a second marriage for Thomas after a separation of some type between Almeda and Thomas Hinds. Military records list Thomas Hinds, a married farmer residing in Perry County, who joined the Union Army on August 15, 1862 and died January 19, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is buried at Galum Presbyterian Cemetary in Perry County, Illinois.
Another record in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index is for the marriage of Almeda Hinds and Mathias Mount May 16, 1864 in Perry County (vol 4, page 232). A member submitted IGI record lists this May 16, 1864 marriage in Illinois as being between Mathias Mount and Almedia Throop. So this would seem to be the second marriage for the daughter of Thomas G. Most of the Mount families in Illinois in the mid-1800s are in Tazewell and Shelby counties, but a Mathias Mount married Nancy J Dunn November 15, 1860 in Perry county, so this seems to also be a second marriage for Mathias.
On the 1870 and 1880 US census, Almeda and Mathias Mount are living in Mcleansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois. On the 1870, she is listed as Almedia, age 32, born in Indiana, the same as Mathias was born in Indiana. On the 1880 she is listed as age 44, born in Illinois, father and mother born in Tennessee. Both the daughter of Thomas G Throop and of Caleb Throop were born in Illinois with parents born in Tennessee.
I have found no record of Almeda Throop or Mount in 1900. Presumably Almeda died between 1880 and 1900 in Illinois.
