Family researchers put the birth of Henry as 1660, 1652, or about 1650. He was born in Northumberland County, Virginia, which was formed in 1645. Northumberland was an area between the Potomac and the Rappahannock rivers. His place of birth is in the present day county of either Essex of King George. Henry is designated (II) in my writings, the son of Henry and Ann Saunders (Pley).

Both this Henry and his son Henry seem to have married a Sarah. Family trees vary as to the maiden name with a few listing Sarah Harper as the wife of each Henry. I believe the evidence points to Sarah Harper as the wife of Henry (II) and Sarah Porch as the wife of his son Henry (III).

The number and ages of Henry’s children are subjects of much debate, so this description is a "best guess". Names are listed (not in birth order) by Jack Burtis in JTJ Family Tree at Rootsweb.com, except for Richard who is listed by John Berry Family Tree.

John, William, and Martha are confirmed as children of Henry. "On 4 Apr 1720 William Berry, son of Henry Berry deceased, of Hanover Parish, Richmond Co., VA sold land to Benjamin Hensle." The passage mentions other family relationships matching the reference as this Henry. The quoted passage includes references to William’s brother John and sister Martha.

I haven’t found evidence of the birthdates of children. Given Henry’s birthday and death date, the children were probably born between about 1680 and 1697.
